In Blade Runner 2049, I have wondered why Joi is featured in the storyline, only for her to be killed later on. A theory can be that the inclusion of Joi with Joe explores the concept of love versus mortality. Even though Joe is not human, sometimes we forget this. This might be because love exists so strongly and constantly for humans because of the knowledge of inevitable death. The want to be loved is ever present and this is the same for Joe.
