Description

Why was Oppenheimer interested in Niel Bohr's work? The Bohr model of the atom shows negatively charged electrons travel in defined circular orbits around the positively charged nuclei (like tiny planets around a sun like our solar system). In this theory, electrons could jump from one orbit to another by emitting or absorbing energy. The further away the electron, the higher the energy, accounting the stability of atoms on the hydrogen-atom spectrum. This helped give birth to quantum mechanics.
