If you have a license, you’ve likely encountered this scenario: It’s late, you’re driving home, perhaps on a dark back road - a shortcut if you will - and on the side of the road, in the peripheral shine of your headlights, you see that tell-tale reflection of eyes. Some may even have experienced that heart stopping moment of quickly breaking to a halt as that classic deer in the headlights stands staring back at you in the darkness. Deer are creepy in their own right. But in the Appalachian Mountain region of North America, there is something different. Something not quite right.
