If you asked most of your friends what Christianity is about, chances are they’d point you to rule-keeping. “Christianity? It’s about being a good person, and loving your neighbour” many will answer. You can understand why many people think this is what Christianity is about. After all, the Bible is filled with laws. Commandments that tell us how to live, and what not to do. But, trying to be a better person doesn’t get us very far. Certainly not to heaven. What we will see today, is that, far from being an unbearable burden, the law is a good gift, that God doesn’t want to leave us in our sin and brokenness and self centerdness, but he wants to free us to be who we were created to be, to be people of love.
