Jose (Poppy) Perez's Aunt, Menerva Bell was a Quarrels school teacher. She moved to the corner of Howell and Tryon Roads in 1968. Jose's family soon followed, moving just a block down the street. He reflects on the autonomy kids had to govern, organize and lead their playtime.
