Politics has always been a trashy topic of conversation. However, in the era of social media, it has become even more trashy.
When I used to engage in political debates on social media, it was always a lose-lose situation. No matter what I said, I would inevitably offend someone. And if I didn't say anything at all, then I was labeled as being "silent" and "complicit."
So, why bother? The current state of politics is so polarized that there is no way to have a civil conversation about it. It's nothing more than a shouting match between two opposing sides.
And that's not what social media is for. Social media should be a place where we can connect with each other and share ideas — not argue about politics.
