There are many lessons. I consider this world a school and a year after completing my life in classroom college, I was asked to host a 6 pm news show in Baltimore with another anchor. My producers asked me to change my name. He was also asked to change his looks. But the worst part was that I found it difficult to read the sufferings of others in the form of news. I could not stick to the script. I was taken back in eight months, but since there was a contract, they gave me a talk show instead of being fired.
When I got that show, I felt that I have come home. When you start doing what you really want to do, then everything seems right. Every day is like a bonus regardless of the money. Emotions are indeed the true GPS guiding you in life. Your emotionally guiding system will tell you when and what you want to do and what not to do. The way is to put your ego away and start listening to your mind. Every right decision in my life has come from within me. It has originated from the heart and every wrong decision has been made because of not listening to the voice of our heart.
If something doesn't feel right, don't do it. Only this one lesson will save you from many troubles in life. Even if you doubt something, don't say it. When you make your inner voice a guide in life, not only will your personal life be better, but you will also be ahead of the competition in the working world. Daniel Pink, the best-seller, writes in his book A Whole New Mind that we are entering a new era. He says that the time is not far when only logical, rule-based thinking will not matter. Empathy, happiness, purpose, and intrinsic characteristics will prove to be excellent values.
These qualities will come to the fore when you start doing what you want to do, peeking into everything in your work – your expertise as well as emotion. If you really want to fly, put your strength behind your passion. Honor your inner voice. You want the meaning of life along with money at the end of life. This is what makes your life prosperous. You want to be surrounded by people who you trust, who appreciate you. This will happen only if you are 'rich' inside.
