Esther Murray is a rare jewel of an individual that has both an insightful and unique perspective into the psychology of healthcare. Her formal role is as a health psychologist working at Queen Mary's University London where she teaches Health Psychology to MBBS students, leading the iBSc in Medical Education. She has formalised and created fascinating research into Moral Injury in healthcare workers that can be found here:

My conversation with Esther in this episode centres around the concept of sacrifice (both professional and personal) as healthcare employees in the current climate of Covid-19. We also explore come of the concepts of cognitive diffusion & the FEAR acronym used in acceptance and commitment therapy. Acceptance and commitment therapyis a form of psychotherapy commonly described as a form of cognitive-behavior therapy or of clinical behavior analysis (CBA). It is a psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies mixed in different ways with commitment and behaviour-change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. The approach is a type of psychotherapy that helps you accept the difficulties that come with life on a day-to-day basis.
