In Parshat Vayakhel-Pekudei, the Torah describes two coverings of the Mishkan—ten inner curtains and eleven outer drapes made from goat hair. The ten represent the essence of holiness and the deepest root of the Jewish soul, corresponding to the ten types of melody that have the power to repair even the most profound spiritual damage. Surrounding them are the eleven drapes, which parallel the eleven spices of the Ketoret that confront impurity and extract holiness trapped within it. This structure reflects how holiness is protected: the outer level, associated with simcha and the power of the Ketoret, guards the deeper holiness within. The Mishkan itself also represents the Tzaddikim who draw souls back to Hashem, while their followers strengthen joy and holiness among the Jewish people so that the deeper rectification will not be needed. Through simcha and holiness, the sparks trapped in impurity are elevated and restored.
