Yaakov wanted so badly that the angel of Esav bless him since all true blessing is synonymous to joy, and by having this angel - the epitome of sadness and depression - bless and bring joy to Yaakov and his descendants, this in itself is the greatest expression of joy - i.e. turning sadness and depression into joy and delight etc.
