In Parshat Chayey Sarah, Avraham searches for a wife for Yitzchak and faces a fundamental choice: righteousness or lineage. Yitzchak, being an olah temimah—a wholly consecrated offering—required a wife with pure lineage to establish an unshakeable foundation for the future of Am Yisrael. Rivka, a descendant of Shem, provided that foundation, and through her and Yitzchak every Jew inherits a deep, indestructible spiritual identity. Even though second-choice options like the daughters of Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre were righteous, they originated from the Chamber of Exchanges and lacked the purity of lineage needed to anchor the entire nation. The miracle of Rivka’s birth ensured continuity rooted in holiness, allowing all future generations—even those who fall far—to find their way back. Because our very DNA traces to this foundation, every Jew holds an eternal spark that can never be lost.
