In Parashat Vayakhel, the Jewish people sought to rectify the sin of the Golden Calf by donating generously to the Mishkan. Their eagerness reflected their desire to restore what was lost—the ability to wait and trust in Hashem’s process. Rebbe Nachman teaches that setbacks and failures are part of the journey toward Keter, the gateway to divine light. Just as the Kumaz, an ornament associated with impurity, was accepted for the Mishkan, so too can a Jew rise from the lowest places to holiness. By holding on, giving tzedakah, and refusing to give in to despair, we create the vessels to receive Hashem’s infinite light.
