A normal brother would be filled with hate and anger if their brothers did to them as the brothers did to Yosef - so how was he able to maintain such love and no ill feelings towards them? - Since he saw that he inevitably had to enter the realm of impurity i.e. slavery, in jail etc. - he saw that he had to elevate from these low places the holy sparks - and since it was through simcha, he thus was able to elevate them etc.
