The purpose of Hashem ordering Moshe to keep the Jews back from ascending Mt. Sinai at the revelation was in order that they should not expire from the intense experience, and so it is throughout life - Hashem puts on restraints on a person so that he should not overload and explode in his quest to invest the Infinite Light etc.
