The opposition of the angels to mankind is his ability to sing praise to Hashem while still being caught up and tangled within the vanities and lusts of this world - all of which represent sadness and melancholy - with the angels not accepting that a person can still praise Hashem and be happy by turning this sadness into joy etc.
