Kojo Asamoa-Caesar is a husband, father, son of immigrants, and educator who is the Democratic nominee for United States Congress in Oklahoma’s District 1. Kojo is the first Black nominee from OK-1, and the first ever Ghanaian-American nominated for United States Congress. After graduating from law school in 2013, Kojo moved to Tulsa with Teach for America and taught kindergarten and third grade before becoming the founding principal of Greenwood Leadership Academy in 2017. Earlier this year Kojo’s wife Onikah opened Fulton Street Books & Coffee, and the couple welcomed their first daughter, Hadassah Eden, into the world.
In this episode, Doc and Ali connect with Kojo to learn about his journey from being the son of immigrants to being a nominee for congress. He shares his vision for OK-1 and discusses the important issues at stake in the November 3rd election. And they discuss #FireInLittleAfrica and how Kojo soundtracks his daily life with hip-hop including Steph Simon, Dr. View and more FILA artists to keep him motivated during the campaign.
