Sometimes it is hard to put concrete language on thoughts, feelings and ideas and the Lord knew that. So instead of disregarding the “soulish” part of us (mind, will and emotions) He gave us comparisons of what His relationship is to this unseen part of our being. He knew that every person, in every culture, in every time period would understand examples of what it is like to want and need life basics like food and water.
