Jean Frankel, Jeff Hall and I welcomed Mike May, freelance golf writer and sports industry veteran to episode 32 of the Sounds of Stonebridge Podcast. I first met Mike whe he was working for the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Assoc, (now known as the SFIA). They were the former owners and hosts of the "Super Show", which for anyone that has been there knows, it was an amazing trade show. Mike has been traveling across the U.S.A and other destinations worldwide writing about some of the best golf destinations in the world. Mike has played some of the greatest golf courses that you may not have heard of. While we all know the big names like Pine Valley, Augusta, Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines, there are courses all over this country that have amazing stories behind them. Mike also discussed the "South Florida Golf Trail" and told some of the stories behind the courses that make up this group. Mike then told a great story about his visit to Royal St. Georges in England, which is the site of next year's Open Championship. Before we closed the show we did a lightening round and asked everyone about their favorite golf movies. Jean went with Bagger Vance, Jeff went with Tin Cup, there is something personal there, just ask Jeff about it. Mike May and I had the same choice of the Greatest Game Ever Played. If you have not seen it, I highly reccomend it. It is a wonderful story about Francis Ouimet, who is 1 of the 5 amateur golfers that have won the U.S. Open Golf Championship. This weekend we get back to some live sports on Sunday with the big challenge match between Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Rickly Flowler and fellow Oklahaoma State grad, Mathew Wolff. All proceeds from the event go to support some of the charities and organizations providing assistance to the front line medical and healthcare professionals.
