For this episode, I am joined by Bronwyn Kelly, a talented illustrator based out of Ottawa, Canada. One of the most impressive things I learned about her in this interview is that Bronwyn started digital illustration only 5 months ago! While on maternity leave, Bronwyn dusted off an iPad that has been sitting on the shelves for a couple of years, and decided to start creating art. Understanding the all-consuming nature of being a new mother, Bronwyn wanted to be mindful about her mental space and prioritized self care by finding an outlet that can be simply her own. Within just a few months, her Instagram Page @bron.draws quickly gained followership and she also recently opened up a digital print shop, where most of her prints sold out within the first week of launching!
In our conversation, I specifically asked about how she developed her taste in design. For someone who just started this discipline months ago, I found that her creative choices with texture, lines, and color palette were very intentional, refined, and tastefully done; a rare quality in beginners. It was so cool to hear about her thought process within that, and what type of lessons she's learned along the way.
I'm very grateful for Bronwyn's time. Her work, taste in design, as well as mindset has really inspired me in my own creative journey. I know there is so much more to see from her. Do yourself a favor and visit @bron.draws on Instagram, pick up a print, and support small businesses!
