Welcome to our read-aloud of "Because of Winn-Dixie," by Kate DiCamillo.
Good morning, Azusa and Biola!! This is Miss Martin, and I’m so happy you’ve joined me today for this podcast, because I’m going to share with you one of my favorite books, called “Because of Winn-Dixie,” written by the auther, Kate DiCamillo
This is the story of a girl, named Opal India Baloni, her father, and her dog, Winn-Dixie.
The book blurb on the back cover of the book gives us a summary of what the story will be about. It says, “One summer’s day, ten-year-old India Opal Buloni goes down to the local supermarket for some groceries – and comes home with a dog. But Winn-Dixie is no ordinary dog. It’s because of Winn-Dixie that Opal begins to make friends. And it’s because of Winn-Dixie that she finally dares to ask her father about her mother, who left when Opal was three. In fact, as Opal admits, just about everything that happens that summer is because of Winn-Dixie.”
I’m going to read the first page of this story, and I want you to try and close your eyes, and envision, picture what’s happening in the story in your mind! You can always pause the podcast, rewind, and listen again if you need to. Enjoy the story!
