Haggai admonished the people for their neglect of God’s house because their attention had shifted away from the things of God to their own personal well-being. In essence, Haggai lamented that the people lived in fine homes while the temple lay in ruins (Hag. 1:3-6). This happens when spiritual apathy sets in—we neglect the things of God in pursuit of the things of this world.
Think about this: What are some earthly comforts that can distract you from following God’s will? How can Christians guard themselves from falling for such distractions?
