The leaders of the nation of Israel influenced the people by leading them in the reading of Scripture, offering explanation to those who did not understand the language (Neh. 8:7-8). The people observed the nation’s leaders as God’s Word was being read. Ezra praised God, and the people followed his example. The leaders in this scene were shaping culture by humbly listening to God’s Word with people they were leading.
Think about this: When has someone helped you understand something difficult in Scripture? How can you be active in your church in helping the next generation understand the truths of the Bible?
