Today is Tuesday, December 17, 2019 and here is your Daily Devo.

Most contemporary counselors would have likely suggested that Daniel could have β€œknelt” in his heart to pray while keeping his body straight. We, too, might read these verses as a bit radical and unnecessary. If God knows our hearts, why was this conscious, visible defiance necessary? Obedience to God. Daniel fixated his heart on the Lord and prayed toward Jerusalem for the restoration of Israel (1 Kings 8:46-50). Knowing that the current exile was somehow part of God’s plan, he kept himself anchored to the kingdom of heaven through his daily petitions. And once against, this story teaches us that God honors those who remain faithful to Him. Just as he blessed and honored Daniel under the Babylonians, Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar, he did so again under the Medo-Persians and Darius (who is Cyrus the Persian).

Think about this: In what ways are you intentionally seeking to live a life faithfully devoted to God? What does such a life look like? How can you better demonstrate this devotion in your own life?
