Sixth Episode: middle grade novels & graphic novels!

Marisa and Mary return this time to talk about teen middle grade books, graphic novels, and the world of book covers and publishing. If you need to add more books to your To Be Read pile, check out the Books Mentioned below! Thank you to Acadia, a teen who asked our question about big publishers vs self publishing this week!

Mary talked about Hazel’s Theory of Evolution by Lisa Jenn Bigelow, a middle grade LGBTQIA+ novel with a girl who loves goats and encyclopedias, but even she doesn’t have all the answers for the questions waiting for her in 8th grade.

For her second book, Mary delved into the nonfiction graphic novel memoir The Fire Never Goes Out: A Memoir in Pictures by Noelle Stevenson.

Marisa talked about a debut middle grade book, Nikki On the Line by Barbara Carroll Roberts, featuring a girl who dreams of being a basketball star, but with school stress, babysitting woes, and friend drama, her confidence is taking a hit.

Marisa's second book was a newly released graphic novel Wonder Woman: Tempest Tossed by Laurie Halse Anderson and Leila del Duca. A modern take on a 16 year old Diana of the Amazons.
