Hello, Hello!! And welcome back to the nour you know podcast. Well, Nour has been gone for a bit. She moved, finished a grad class, and has been carrying guilt the weight of 100 camels on her back. Pleasing an Arab-American family --at least her’s-- isn't easy, to say the least. You may be forced to hide major parts of your life from them to maintain their approval or their "unconditional love". You may ruminate over the thought of their disapproval, anger, and lack of support of your decisions. You may feel the urge to question your decision-making and switch to autopilot, assuming your parents must always know what is best. Today, Nour wants to share the internal conflict that has been replaying in her head for the past four months, and how she eventually decided to be honest about something she knew would alter her family dynamic forever.
To all those who are dealing with making a decision you know is best for you but won't get the approval of your family, she wants to reach out to you personally and let you know your emotions: fear, distress, anxiety, and whatever have you are valid. If you need someone to vent to or a shoulder to cry on, her DMs are open. You’ll get through this in one piece, stronger and freer than ever.
