The start of a long-running franchise that spun-off animated and live-action TV series, Highlander deftly combines fantasy, romance, and historical fiction with MTV bombast and explosions into an unforgettable mixture. Original songs by Queen and a score by Michael Kamen help make this one of the iconic films of the 1980s. Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery make a surprisingly good pairing even if the latter plays the half Egyptian half Spaniard Ramirez (Sean Connery is of Irish and Scottish descent).
