Released in an age when sequels were less calculated, Jaws 2 takes some elements from the original Peter Benchley novel (the mayor's political quagmires) as an inspiration along with a kind of Jaws: The Next Generation with parts of the story following hip teens screwing around in the water. There's suspense to be had, but this is sequel is showing a lot of slack for just the second entry in the series.
