Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher talk about Spider-Man 2 from 2004, the second film in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is failing his college science class, but has to do one last paper to pass the grade. As part of the paper, he interviews Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina). A nuclear fusion demo for the press goes awry and his mechanical tentacle device turn Otto into the dangerous Doctor Octopus. Spider-Man 2 is a better film than the original with Alfred Molina in particular turning in a performance that's equal parts friendly and frightening. Raimi injects some tricks from his horror ouevre for the fight scenes.
Mat finds American Reunion to be a pleasant end to the American Pie series with some fun character moments. Thrasher had fun at the ScareFest Horror Convention in Lexington, Kentucky. Among the goodies he grabbed were Shout Factory's 12-movie set of Cinematic Titanic: The Complete Collection and Dreams With Sharp Teeth, the documentary on legendary sci-fi author Harlan Ellison.
