Description

In this episode we connect with Kavina Pound as they rev up towards their participation in Live Archive at Siobhan Davies this 24th February 2024 where she called in from for this very episode of this podcast!

Kavina Pound is a dance artist and the co-creator of Danzability with her daughter Bethany. She uses her experience to inspire others, and has spoken about her dance journey at various disability and well-being events. Kavina is a regular dancer with Freestylers and works freelance with SLIDE. She is also a Biodanza teacher, running a monthly class in Greenwich, and is a volunteer on the committee for Biodanza Association UK.

This podcast covers Kavina's start of their dance artist journey leading up to now in this new year of ours in 2024!

We talk about organisations they've connected with which include Candoco, Protein, Slide, and of course Stop Gap where we first met each in a creative lab in Guilford back in 21 or 22?! Geez time flies by! Kavina talks about moving to London and feeling like she had found that inclusive practice she was searching for, and found her she was met with arms wide open, and finally felt access needs were finally being met.

We talk about the concept of what we see on the surface compared to inner working of an individual citing her dyspraxia. To commonly on first glance being doubted in ability even though they actually have a degree behind them. However this has never stopped Kavina overcoming the barriers they've come across and where their dance practice is now starting to flourish. It was truly expiring to talk to her about their mind set, and I couldn't help to be in awe of them.

I do hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did recording it!
