What are the phases of healing in tissues? 🤔
Typically when an injury occurs that tissue has to go through three phases of recovery:
✅ inflammatory phase
✅ healing phase
✅ remodelling
Typically most health systems are very good at teaching the first two and what they do... However after that many forget about the remodelling phase, which is the phase that could ensure people don’t consistently injure the same place again.
🤕 Phase 1 results in a lot of pain and swelling, ensuring good blood 🩸 flow, nutrients but also helps to immobilise the injured area to allow healing to take place. Typically 48 hours.
Phase 2 the healing phase, this is where your body patches up any breaks, tears or swelling in an area which could make the area weak. It typically does this by laying down a tissue called collagen (this is a fancy word for a scar tissue). This is great as it strengthens the tissue so you can start using it again. Typically 6 weeks
Phase 3 is the remodelling, this is where you body has to break down the scar tissue and realign all the muscle fibres, fascia or bone tissues. This can take anywhere up to 1 year-2 years and longer if tissues are injured again in that time. Often scars are not as mobile and therefore much more likely to injure again. We always forget about that last phase which is why it’s so common for people to cause the same injury again year after year
