Episode 1 Resume Tips: In this first episode of our Career Resource Packet series, we review one of the most critical elements of the job search process – the resume. We discuss everything from the content to the look and feel of your resume. Ultimately it is your document, and you must take ownership of it, but be sure to follow these common resume rules that HR professionals and recruiters look for.
Length
Junior and mid-level candidates: 1 page ideal, 2 pages acceptable
Executive and senior-level candidates: 2 pages ideal, 3 pages acceptable
Anything more than 3 pages and it is a C.V.
Look/visuals
Put section headings in bold, italics, or underline.
Use bullet points, hyphens or other special characters - but consistency is key.
Fill empty white space.
Details matter
Showcase hard skills – technological, languages spoken; weave soft skills throughout.
Goals, numbers, percentages, examples and specifics are a must.
