Description

Open mic nights provide new musicians with the first stepping stone to fame, and give seasoned musicians a good excuse to catch up with friends and try new material.

With pubs closed for the past four months, the entire open mic scene has come to an abrupt halt.

A regular face at open mics in north Wiltshire and the Cotswolds, Alison Hustwitt, joins us on this week's Sheer Isolation podcast to talk about life during lockdown and to share some pearls of wisdom for all the new post-lockdown, self-taught guitarists about the dos and don'ts of your first open mic performance.

We also touch on Alison's volunteer work in helping drug and alcohol addicts through this unstable and challenging time.

Music is provided by the Forest of Dean's Luke Philbrick, and the self-proclaimed creator of Wurz-rap, Bristol based (but Malmesbury's very own) Corky.

The Sheer Isolation podcast is made weekly to promote the music scene in the West of England. It's created by Kieran Moore in Trowbridge and Jon Ponting near Cricklade.

Thank you for your continued positive feedback on this series. Safe For Work audio versions are available by searching on your podcast provider, and listen out for us on community radio stations across the region. Musicians are very welcome to send us videos to feature as well as any news or streaming dates... sheerisolation@gmail.com
