Easter Thursday - Luke 24

In the evening of the resurrection, the eleven apostles and other disciples gathered at a house. And they locked the door for fear of the Jews. They were afraid of the Jews for fear of losing their lives.

These days, we experience somewhat similar. Many people, either voluntarily or enforced, have to stay inside their houses away from others. We lock ourselves in our homes for fear of a virus. We are afraid of losing our lives.

Now, through the locked door, Jesus enters the house where his disciples gather. And he makes sure of his bodily resurrection by showing his hands and feet and re-confirms them by showing he can even eat their food. When his disciples were shivering from the fear of death, Jesus revealed the reality of the bodily resurrection. How do you think the disciples felt when they saw Jesus eating their broiled fish?

I believe it was much more than a confirmation of the resurrection event of Jesus. They realized Jesus is God, and, at the same time, they saw a Man - a true God defeating death and a true man with flesh and bones that never corrupt. And they finally understood what kind of life Jesus had promised to them - eternal life with a true body, a body that does not know corruption or death!

In this time of the pandemic, I realize how helpless my human body is. How fragile our human body is against this primitive form of the half-life of a virus! But we Christians feel our desire for resurrection grows. We are not merely hoping to go back to the life that used to be; but we hope for the life no power on earth can harm, the new life with a new body that knows no death.
