Matthew 6

Many Christians wonder what plans God has for them. We want to know God’s will for our life. Mainly through meditation and prayer, we try to listen to God’s voice. Have you been successful? I wish I could hear God’s voice and know his will. This question of God’s will is not theological or religious but more existential and personal. It’s because it is about the life decisions of our own.

But certain private revelation does not come easily. An angel does not appear. Any voice from heaven does not resound in my ears. No sign is given.

Today Jesus teaches us Our Father prayer. In this prayer, we are also told to pray, “Thy will be done.” But what is ‘Thy will’? How do I know? Do we have to pray while not knowing any of it?

Often, we miss the greatest revelation while we wait for private revelations for ourselves. It is Christ Jesus. He is the revelation of God the Father. Christ Jesus knows the will of the Father in the full sense because he is the one who is completely united with the Father. He says what he hears his Father. This is why he is called the Truth. What he teaches is God’s will. That is the revelation.

If you’re still looking for God’s will for your life, please read the Bible. The Bible is not merely a collection of stories. It is the revelation of God’s will for each of us. Especially the words of Christ are the direct revelation of the Father’s will. His words are not about do’s and don’ts. His words reveal God the Father’s will for our life. We want to read them for our personal decisions in life.

This revelation of God the Father’s will, Christ Jesus, will lead us into the union with Christ and God the Father. That means we become like the Son of God in making decisions for life. It is not so much of modern-day self-realization but more of humble assimilation to Christ.

We don’t have to wait for more revelation of God’s will. Already, the revelation himself is waiting for us to listen to his words.
