God reaffirms his promises to Abram in dramatic fashion as he cuts a covenant with Abram. The amazing thing is Abram is asleep and does not walk through the pieces of the animals. God alone will fulfill his promise and it's a pointer to Jesus who alone takes the punishment of Abram and our failure on the cross.
