Your daily COVID-19 LST Report:

— Careful assessment of N95 respiratory decontamination through ultraviolet germicidal irradiation is urged to ensure adequate fit and continued protection because different  models of N95 respirators were highly variable in passing a fit test after this treatment.  Some models did not pass the baseline fit test, while others were able to withstand multiple or even twenty repeat treatments.

— Clinicians are reminded to actively work against anchoring bias during the pandemic. A septic 94 year-old male admitted with fever, leukocytosis, tachypnea, tachycardia, hypoxia, and infiltrates on chest X-ray was found to have a gram-negative community acquired pneumonia. However, antibiotics were not started for over 12 hours after admission because staff at all levels were focused on ruling out COVID-19.
