What’s up everyone. Its Captain Kyle Smith and this week I sat down for a Morning Meeting with Retired San Diego Fire Department Captain and current San Diego Firefighters Credit union board member Michael McCormick. Michael outlines all the ways our credit union far surpasses the big banks and tells us why we should switch (Hint: among other things, they WILL be able to save you some money in hidden fees you’re paying at the big banks) 💰
For his part, Michael took an interest in investing at an early age and his philosophy hasn’t changed much over the years: 1) Spend less than you make ✅
2) Start saving as soon as possible to let the power of compounding work it’s magic ✅
3) Invest in low-cost, broadly diversified index funds (he mentions Vanguard specifically) ✅
Those pieces of advice align perfectly with what we talk about a lot here at The FIREhouse, but when someone who has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Business Administration backs it up, you should probably listen.
