Description

David Hanright is a man of many titles. He's the Performing & Visual Arts Teacher at Thornton Academy, artist, actor, board member of the Maine Drama Council, Maine state representative for the New England Drama Council, comedy playwright, and Artistic Director and Co-founder of Maine Repertory Theater and improviser with the Chamber of Comedy.

We weren’t kidding when we said he was a man of many titles. These are just the titles he listed in his bio. We know for a fact that he is also the Maine Repertory Theater’s program designer, popcorn popper, furniture designer (as in design and make the furniture you see around the theater), set designer, videographer, photographer, graphic designer (along with Bob), main attraction, culotte ad designer, room sweeper, clown nose wearer, and cohost of the Maine Rep Update on YouTube.

Maine Repertory Theater and the Chamber of Comedy is the place where the faculty of Balderdash Academy became a family. It's the region’s only theater devoted to the creation, support, and development of comedy in the theater and they need your help.

If you'd like to join us in helping Maine Rep get through the pandemic you can do so here.

Ode to the Balderdash Academy

A Sonnet by Billy Shags

To Balderdash Academy, I write.

I love the way you laugh, write and edit,

Invading my mind day and through the night,

Always dreaming about the microcredit.

Let me compare you to a funny tune?

You are more blazing, sunny and awesome.

Smart sun heats the lifelong peaches of June,

And summertime has the awesome fossum.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.

I love your prudent Alan and elan.

Thinking of your comedy fills my days.

My love for you is the awful callen.
