Myth 1: In a single session, you can have unlimited hair grafts transplanted.
This is a common myth among those planning a hair transplant procedure as several people fall prey to catchy advertisements and get trapped in the process without understanding the fact that this is a lie.
“Nothing can ever be unlimited. One cannot have unlimited hair grafts that too in a single session but a maximum number of grafts can be harvested. It is an impossible thing to achieve as one is being lied to promote one’s hair transplant centre. Hair transplant patients should not get lured to such gimmicks,” warned Dr John Watts.
While defining what is a ‘maximum’ number, Dr John Watts said that ideally, one can have 2500–3500 hair grafts for the hair transplant.
However, the maximum that is possible for transplantation in a single session is between 4000 to 5500 hair grafts. He said that the requirement of hair grafts and availability of healthy and safe hair grafts on the donor site needs to be balanced as limited hair grafts need to be extracted based on need.
“If the hair grafts required goes beyond this, then the hair transplant has to be postponed to the next session,” explained Dr John Watts.
