In response to the above queries by Ganesh Raj, Dr John Watts explained that generally it is not regarded as safe and advisable for Haemophilia patients to undergo a hair transplant procedure as it comes with risks for them due to lengthy and prolonged bleeding and clotting time.
Being a genetic disorder, Haemophilia involves excessive bleeding after injury or surgery. This runs in contrast to the hair transplant procedure, as the surgery involves inflicting minor wounds on the scalp during the implantation and graft extraction procedure, making them vulnerable to bleeding. Hence, hair transplant procedure is always fraught with risks for such patients.
However, if precautions are followed and the patient is willing to take risks, they can undertake the hair transplant procedure provided they give consent to their doctors.
” Those with Haemophilia need to get advanced blood products before the hair transplant procedure to replace the missing clotting factors through infusions of clotting factor concentrates and plasma transfusion. If this cautionary step is followed then they can undertake a hair transplant but only after giving proper consent to their hair transplant surgeon,” informed Dr John Watts.
Nayak Hamsavath asks: Sir, I have been taking 1 mg Finasteride tab and 5% Minoxidil for over a year now. However, I have not received good hair growth results so far. Please explain what I should do now.
In response to the above problem listed by Nayak Hamsavath, Dr John Watts explained that by his disclosure he ought to have accomplished good hair growth results by the end of the year. “Since there have been no results in your case, it is time to opt for a revaluation of your case by consulting your dermatologist or hair transplant surgeon,” advised Dr John Watts.
