Ranga Kumar asks: Sir, I have been using Minoxidil for the past two months. I want to know how many years I have to use it for good hair growth. Similarly, I want to know if there is any difference between Bio PRP and GFC or if both are the same. Please explain.
In response to the above queries by Ranga Kumar, Dr John Watts explained that at least for good growth one needs to use Minoxidil lotion for at least 6-month period before his doctor can assess the results. “It is hardly two months since you started using Minoxidil. Hence, it is suggested you wait for four months more. After that your doctor will take a call based on the results,” informed Dr John Watts.
Following the assessment after the end of 6 months, he may be either asked to continue the medication further or if the results are not good the dermatologist may increase the dosage of Minoxidil lotion for application.
While explaining the difference between Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC) and Bio PRP, Dr John Watts said that both are different techniques. “In Bio PRP, Biotin serum is injected in the scalp along with PRP while GFC is an advanced form of PRP where only growth factor concentrate formed on the top layer of the PRP cells are used and injected in the scalp for promoting hair growth,” clarified Dr John Watts.
So, which is a better technique? Explaining this, Dr John Watts said that there is no established scientific literature on Bio PRP but it is known to provide mixed results for the users.
“Some get good results while others are not so fortunate,” said Dr John Watts.
However, when it comes to GFC outcome, Dr John Watts said that it is a consistent technique and has been found to provide better results than normal PRP therapy.
Conclusion: Though both Bio PRP and GFC provide good results, Dr John Watts advised viewers to follow caution while using the techniques. “One should at least opt for 6–8 sessions of either Bio PRP or GFC to get desired results while maintaining a gap of 20–21 days between each session,” advised Dr John Watts.
