Description

Regardless of the profession, most workers likely spend their earnings on necessities like mortgage or rent, food, utilities, and car expenses. Therefore, a side hustle can be an ideal solution for teachers when additional funds are needed, whether for a dream purchase or an unexpected cost.

According to a 2021 survey, 53% of teachers were working multiple jobs, with many citing financial necessity as the primary reason. Additionally, the trend of teachers seeking supplementary income has been exacerbated by pandemic-related stress and rising living costs (EdSource) (Coursera).

Surveys indicate that side hustles are common among teachers, with many starting these ventures as hobbies. Most side hustles are worked on for 5-10 hours per week, often in the evenings (Self). This suggests a significant portion of educators are balancing additional work alongside their teaching responsibilities, though specific 2023 statistics for new side hustles are not detailed.

These trends highlight educators' economic pressures and the growing need for additional income sources.

In this episode, I speak with Luz Nazario, a teacher who has successfully managed her side hustle business since 2016. She shares her journey of balancing teaching with running a business.
