In this episode we speak with one of the first African American members of the United States Underwater Demolition Team, Vernon Gilmore. Vernon starts off telling us about his time in basic training and what it's like to go through hell week (4:55). He then goes over some of the racism he experienced while stationed in the south and how his squad mates responded (15:30). We then get into what it was like being in jump school and dive school during his time and how it differs now (24:00). We then close out the conversation going over what his time in the military taught him and what people should look for that are thinking about joining (44:30).
