On Day 20, we learnt that Joseph was the mid-point and connector between Abraham and Moses. He was the initiation of the promise made by God to Abraham while, Moses was the manifestation of the promise. This makes Joseph and Moses very vital and important persons who played pivotal roles in the manifestation of God's promise to Abraham.
In this lesson we will commence the study on the hero of faith i.e just man made perfect called Moses. When we hear about Moses, the first thing that comes to mind is the greatest leader who initiated the Old Testament and led Israel out of Egypt. This is mostly what he is recognized for as a man of Faith. Most times, the faith in his birth and sustenance is not recognized and acknowledged but, the writer of Hebrews did and so it is important we do likewise. In this light, we are studying;
1. A hero and heroine of faith who their names were not mentioned by the writer of Hebrews but, their act of faith was mentioned. These were the parents of Moses, they were from the tribe of Levi Exodus 2:1-2. What was Moses' mother heroic act of faith? Hebrews 11 verse 23 reveals, she hid Moses by faith for three (3) months. She hid him because she saw that he was a goodly and proper child,and was not willing the give off her son notwithstanding the king's decree (Exodus 1:22). Bible dictionaries defines a goodly child as one that is good, pleasant, agreeable, beautiful, fine and healthy. And, a proper child as one of polished manners, elegant (of body), comely, fair, and handsome. This makes us understand that Moses was sustained because of his Mother who saw him as a goodly and proper child and due to this she was not afraid of the decree of Pharaoh. Despite the heavy risk attached to her actions, she saw a great future for her son by merely beholding his looks and this propelled faith in her to secure his life. Without the faith of Moses' mother a great man of faith like Moses will have been lost at birth or after birth. This as why Moses' parents and mother precisely were heroes of faith. The faith of Moses mother is the faith that births, secures and nurtures great men of great faith.
2. The Egyptian midwives who saved Moses' life at birth but, their names and actions were not recorded by the writer of Hebrews. In Exodus 1:15-16 Pharaoh due to the fear of the increase of the Israelites told the Egyptian midwives to kill every Jewish male child born. The midwives did not obey Pharaoh because, they feared God and gave excuses for their disobedience moreover, their excuse was actually true Exodus 1:17-19. So Moses escaped death because of the fear of God possessed by the Egyptian midwives. This makes us understand that, although there are people of faith with no earthly and namely recognition, God recognizes their heroic acts of faith. Although they were not written in Hebrews, they were rewarded by God. God dealt well with them and built them houses,that is homes (Exodus 1:19-20).
The life of Moses makes us know the place and importance of the faith of others in our lives and destiny. Because without the faith, that is fear of God of the Egyptian midwives, and the faith and love for a goodly child of his mother, he should have died at birth or after birth. Hence, the faith of others are important for our faith to be born.
God rewards this kind of faith. God dealt well with the midwives and made them houses also for Moses mother God blessed her by causing her to be paid for nursing her own child (Exodus 2:9).
