It is ignorance to think that politics doesn't belong to the Church thus, the Church does not need to participate in politics.
The Anchor Bible text for this teaching says,
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
Psalm 28:7, KJV.
King David also wrote in the Book of Psalm 24 verse 1 saying, "The earth is the Lord's, with all its wealth; the world and all the people living in it." (BBE)
The good news is that the children of God are co-owners of the earth with God. Politics is simply governance and from the scriptures, we understand that it belongs to God, not the devil.
Politics has to do with influencing and leading people as such, it is important for the church. The LORD gives us political influence, this is another meaning of the declaration, "The LORD is my strength and my shield;".
