WORD EXPLOSION '23| DAY 17| STUDY ON THE BOOK OF ST.JOHN| CHIMDI & FUNKE OHAHUNA.
He was not himself Light, but was sent to bear witness to that Light.
John 1:8, Ber.
The Bible reference, The Berkeley Version of the New Testament(Gerrit Verkuyl), used as the anchor Bible text for this study makes us understand the emphasis placed on John the Baptist as the sent one. The dark ages was a period of confusion for Israel. so, the purpose of the emphasis placed on John the Baptist as the sent one was for there to be no confusion as to who God sent to bear witness of Christ Jesus. God operates in precision and order (1 Corinthians 14:33&40)
The dark ages was a period when many people at the same time believed that they could interpret the Scriptures for themselves and speak for God. In order to end the prevailing confusion and prevent further confusion, God emphasized who His prophet is now- John the Baptist.
In the New Testament, God does not speak through prophets, He speaks through Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2). The New Testament prophet is only to operate like John the Baptist by testifying of Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:10). Listen to the full teaching to discover how every disciple of Christ is to prophesy, the emphatic distinction we possess for Christ Jesus, and how it prevents confusion in the Church.
Jesus is Lord.
