Welcome to the House of the Unusual Podcast where magic and mystery meet classic pop-culture.
Have you ever wondered what one-billion worth in copper, silver, gold, tobacco, gems, and indigo looks like? Well, if you were a member of the Our Lady of Atocha treasure galleon you would. But, if like most, you weren’t around when the ship sunk on September 4, 1622, you might need a little perspective. Welcome David Vapnitsky, world famous diver and treasure hunter. Back in the early 1980’s, a young and impressionable David met Mel Fisher, an eccentric and famous treasure hunter that seemed larger than life. After catching gold-fever, David began hunting watery riches with Mel, which would lead the two on a journey of adventure, riches, and legal battles with state and federal governments.
On the last episode David lit a votive candle on a silver Atocha candle holder that has been dormant for over 400 years. The lighting of the candle may have awaken angry spirits in search of their sunken treasure and galleon. With items mysteriously moving around Eddie’s studio, is he the next victim of these angry spirits? Or will the crew of the House of the Unusual be able to stop these ghastly ghosts?
