Description

This episode is about former enslaved person, abolitionist leader and Underground Railroad Conductor, Harriet Tubman. Harriet grew up in bondage in the area of Cambridge, Maryland. I met with Lawson Nwakudo, a guide at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park to discuss Harriet's earliest years, when she would have been known as Araminta "Minty" Ross. We talk about her birth, the tasks she performed while enslaved and the injury that almost killed her. As it turns out, this injury may have been the turning point for little Minty, and placed her on a trajectory that would help change America.

Special thanks to Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) and the A Capella Choir for their performance of "Steal Away." This performance can be found on their Free At Last album.
