So one of my clients was being bullied and as part of that bully she is told that she is ugly. Many times others around her like parents and family members would tell her she is beautiful. Many people’s reaction to those who believe poorly of themselves is to tell them the opposite. How does this work in life?
Many times people will disregard information that is contrary to the belief they hold. As an example have you ever looked for something, you knew or were told where to find it and yet you were staring right at it and can’t see it? That is due to the brain and how it is set up to work. Your brain has what is called a “gamma switch”. The job of this switch is to block out information that doesn’t fit our viewpoint.
Have you heard a radio that jumps back and forth between two stations when it is tuned in to a frequency that is midway between two stations? You can often get small snippets of the song playing on each and it goes back and forth. Your mind can also change wavelengths moving form faster ones to slower ones. Your cells tune into those wavelengths. This switch can keep you from recognizing input. Because it is out of the wavelength that our brain is tuned too. So we can tell people things that they cannot see. Telling a person good things about them if they are not in that wavelength does little good.
“Staying on the right frequency is the only way to really hear what you’re after. In much the sameway, the brain’s nerve cells are able to “tune in” to the right station to get exactly the information theyneed,” says researcher Laura Colgin.
So how do we help people to change their thought frequency?
Let’s look at four:
