Wherever you go there you are. One of the problems we as humans have is we try to outrun our problems yet they always accompany us. Shortly after we were married I continued to move us around like 24 times in 2 years. Thinking I would make my life better. I’m not sure that worked! It is similar to what is happening today. Last Monday in the podcast I mentioned refugees and people who had moved from India and how they have brought their caste system and are putting it into place here in the US. Just because we transplant ourselves does not change the type of plant that we are, If you are a rose you will do better in some environments than in others!

As John F Kennedy said “Our problems are man made; therefore, they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings. Man’s reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable, and we believe they can do it again.”

What is it you want to change? What is it that you are most unhappy about? What is it that makes you unhappy? You might want to change a relationship, a job or where you are living. But why do you want those to change? Maybe you are feeling stuck, depressed or withdrawn. Maybe you feel “If Only ___ then I would be happy.” Maybe, you feel like you are not enough, or you do not deserve to be happy. Unless you are a lot different from me you felt these things before. These thoughts create your experiences and your emotions.

These thought patterns may have been created during early childhood and then run continually since. They could be newer pathways with less connections. But the beliefs and patterns have been programmed into your brain most likely without your conscious knowledge and then stored in your subconscious mind. These thought patterns might have been handed down from parents, teachers ,clergy , movies, books, TV and other sources. These people passed those beliefs on  without thinking about it most likely. These patterns are wired together in our brains and simply continue to repeater themselves if not interrupted.

So how do we interrupt these and make changes to our thought patterns?

  1. Observe and face the beliefs you have. Some people fear that this will lead to pain when in actuality it leads to freedom. If it does lead to pain the pain will dissipate in moments rather than having to live with it for a lifetime.
  2. Choose to think differently and to hold that thought over and over till the rational mind agrees with you. You can change the unwanted patterns that no longer serve you and create new patterns that are filled with joy, beauty, peace and abundance.
  3. Practice mindfulness: be conscious of your thoughts and direct them rather than having them direct you. Think of the present. Stay away from the past or the future.
